Science Tries to Catch Up with God - Free Christian Clip Art Graphic

Original Christian artwork: Science tries to figure out the working of God.

Scripture says a lot about wisdom, truth, knowledge and the efforts men put forth to know the ways of God, or to even figure out the things God has done.

In Ecclesiastes, for example, it is written:

I have seen the business that God has given to the sons of men to be busy with.  He has made everything beautiful in its time; also he has put eternity into man’s mind, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.  (Ecclesiastes 3:10,11,  RSV)

In the  New Testament, Paul adds a more serious note to this topic:

For the message of the cross [the gospel of Jesus Christ] is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.  For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."

Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?  For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.  For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.  Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.   (1 Corinthians 1:18-25,  NKJV)

I think the prophet Jeremiah sums up the topic very well, way back in the Old Testament.  God speaks though him, saying:

Thus says the LORD:

"Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,

Let not the mighty man glory in his might,

Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;

But let him who glories glory in this,

That he understands and knows Me,

That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness,

judgment, and righteousness in the earth.

For in these I delight," says the LORD.

(Jeremiah 9:23 and 24,  NKJV)

If anyone really wants to know the great secrets of the universe, let them begin with God.  This world has a way of trying to find truth without God's help.  In fact, science is based on that very idea.  This does not make science evil in itself.  But it does mean that a huge portion of what we really need to know will never be figured out by scientific means.  It also means that much of what science thinks it knows is only half the story.  There is no universe, no life on earth, no proper human development without God.  The Lord gave us excellent brains to use in solving problems and in verifying truth.  He is not troubled when we use them.  In fact, He wants us to really use them.  The Bible says that God wants everyone to know the truth about this life and eternity.

Wisdom begins with the knowledge and reverence of God.  If we really want to know the truth, then let us begin with Jesus Christ.  He is undiluted truth, and He alone can lead us into real knowledge that will free us of the chains of ignorance that bind so many human hearts and minds.
