Ancient times were not so great for
early Christians. Existing religions incited persecution
and political leaders joined in, outlawing the new faith.
Men and women who dared to trust in Jesus and follow Him in
those days were forced to meet secretly, if at all.
The fish became a widely used
symbol, appearing on homes and other meeting places, indicating
to Christian believers that it was safe to gather in Jesus'
name. Down through the centuries it has remained in use,
although made much more popular in recent decades.
This graphic combines the name of
Jesus with the ancient symbol, and it is widely used today in
jewelry, on t-shirts, hats and just about anything else you can
name. Christians love to proclaim their faith in the Lord,
and this is one way to do it.
