Clip Art Image: Picture of Jesus on the Cross (color illustration)

Christ Jesus died on the cross for the sins of the whole world.  That's the central core of all genuine Christian faith.

As Paul wrote to the early Christians, "... we preach Christ crucified..."  (1 Corinthians 1:23)  And again, in the very next chapter of the same book, the Apostle Paul says, "For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified."  (1 Cor. 2:2)

While we know, as followers of the Living Lord Jesus, that Christ is no longer on the cross (in other words, Christ is not dead, but alive forever), it is good to remember His death often until He returns for His own.  May that glorious day come soon, Lord Jesus!

Some people wonder why Christian artists sometimes show the blood in illustrations and paintings.  That's a fair question.  It is to remind ourselves that (as the Bible says) without the shedding of Christ's blood there would be no true and eternal remission of sin.  Jesus was without sin, and He was God's own eternal Son (God in human flesh), so He alone was fit to be "the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world."

The actual suffering and death of Jesus was far worse than most symbolic pictures ever show.  The Bible says that He was mutilated beyond recognition.  There was more to His suffering than the crucifixion itself, since He was tormented and beaten all night and most of the morning leading up to the cross.  For more information, see the Old Testament prophet of Isaiah, in chapter 53 of his book (in the Holy Bible).
