Christians believe and follow Jesus Christ.
That's why the world started calling us "Christians" in the first
place (according to the New Testament book of Acts, this began in a
city called Antioch). The Lord Jesus is everything to our
faith. He is our Savior, our Lord and Master (Teacher), our
Healer, Protector and Shepherd.
There is no valid historical document describing the
physical appearance of the Lord Jesus. We only have the
descriptions offered the by the prophets, and those either describe
His attributes as God's Anointed (the Messiah or Christ), or the
horrible suffering He endured for us on the cross when He died for
the sins of humanity. The Bible gives us what we need most to
know, and allows us to wait until eternity to see Jesus face to
face. There is no doubt that we will know Him when we see Him
in glory.
For now, we rely on the artists of each generation to
share their impressions of the Christ. It is never necessary
to try and capture exactly what He must have looked like as a man,
because His humanity was only part of the story. Had he been
born in another land, to a different group of people, he would no
doubt have looked a lot like the people around Him. As
it was, I suspect that He may well have embodied many of the
physical characteristics of the Jewish bloodline of His mother,
Mary.
The images and symbols offered on this website are
meant to help illustrate a message and to represent our faith in
Christ. They are not meant to capture some secret historical
knowledge of what Jesus must really have looked like as a man.
If we can capture some of the significance of His life, His
teachings, His acts of kindness and divine power, His suffering for
sins, and His resurrection to life, then we have done well. If
we can give some hint as to what Christ in glory may be like, then
we have done all anyone on earth can do.
For all the details and truth about what Jesus was
like, and what He is like today, you must meet Him, one on one, and
learn from Him. God has given the Lord Jesus Christ all that
anyone could ever need to know or to have on this side of heaven.
Jesus freely gives all that he has for anyone willing to look to Him
for understanding and help. Do you know Jesus? If not,
then I urge you to meet Him today. Call of Jesus and open your
heart to who He is and what He has to offer you.
