Telling the truth about God and
eternal life and human nature often got Jesus into trouble with
religious leaders. If we love the truth and insist on
proclaiming it, we will also find ourselves at odds with some of
the people around us.
One thing about Jesus: He always
spoke in order to save, to heal, to help. He never spoke
merely to offend or to hurt.
This is not to say that His comments
were always sugar-coated. He said some things that might
seem, at first, to be cruel or thoughtless. But everything
Jesus ever said was aimed at provoking faith and exposing sin.
No one can be saved from the power of sin until they know they
are slaves to sin. Few of us will begin to really trust
God until we know we must.
Jesus told the truth about God and
what matters to Him. Jesus told the truth about heaven and
how to get there. Jesus told the truth about hell, sin and
human nature. He made religious leaders jealous and angry.
He provoked lost sinners to hope, to dare to believe that God
might love them, accept them, forgive them and even welcome
them.
Such truth is still wanted and
needed today.
