Man at Computer Writing - Free Art Images for Christians

©2010 GospelGifs

Picture of a man at a desktop computer, using the keyboard to write. Original clip art produced by Jim Sutton.

Sending a message to a friend, these days, is more apt to be accomplished by a desktop, laptop or notebook computer or a hand-held device, like a PDA or cell phone, than with pen and ink.  The revolution came almost suddenly, after centuries of very little change.  Yes, when I was young, people did often use a mechanical or sometimes an electric typewriter. By the time I was well into my teens, the word processor (a digital typewriter) was becoming more widespread for home use.  By the time my own children were all born and growing up, the personal computer was being marketed for the American home. Then came the explosion of mobile phones, which looked nothing like the cell phones of today. Mostly used in cars, at the beginning, the mobile phone was big and heavy.

Many changes have come along in electronic technology and in batteries themselves. Today, batteries are much lighter and more powerful than they were when people wrote letters, and even whole book manuscripts, by hand or typewriter. And more can be done with today's cell phone, especially with a Smartphone, than could be done on a home computer when the first PC hit the market. A lot more. For one thing, we have the Internet, and communication towers and antennas everywhere (well, almost everywhere), so that people can call or text or email each other instantly.

The man in the picture above is using a home computer to write a message. It might be an email he is sending to a friend of business contact. Or it might be a formal letter than will be printed out onto paper and mailed in an old-fashioned paper envelope. Or it might be a book, a catalog description, a blog entry, a Twitter or Facebook post, or even a description for a graphic he is preparing to upload to a website. Whatever it is, he seems to be paying it a lot of attention, so we'd best leave him alone.
