Red Car  - Free Art Images for Christians

©2010 GospelGifs

Picture of a red car.  Original clip art produced by Jim Sutton for Christian use.

Since the invention of the automobile, people have come to depend on it more and more for personal transportation. Especially in America and other western nations. Public transportation in U.S. cities has helped some to relieve the crowded roads and streets, but America is far behind the rest of the world in its development of and reliance on public transportation.

The personal car or at least a family automobile has long been a part of the American dream in most parts of the country. Especially in the minds of young men and women striving to become independent of both family and others. Many young Americans begin driving at the age of 16 or so, and soon buy or receive as a gift, their own car. I became a licensed driver, with my own jalopy at the age of 15. I happened to work at a Volkswagen dealership, where I was able (with the help of a few auto mechanics) to piece together a car from junk parts. Literally.

Certainly, many young people see the trip to a remote college or university as a valid argument to own a car, even though a number of schools do not allow freshmen to keep a car on campus. And, of course, many parents forbid the kids to take their car out of state to a school. Yet parents often see the wisdom of giving young drivers in the family their own vehicle, especially after an accident or other incident where the family's mode of transportation has been put at risk.

"I'll buy the car, and you must get a job to pay for the insurance,"  or some variation on that idea is often declared by the parent wanting to enforce some kind of responsibility on the part of the young driver.  It is all part of the coming-of-age in American homes. Not in all homes, but in many homes.  Others must work, save their money to buy their own vehicle, and pay for their own insurance, if they want wheels.  This may slow them down (or not), but if they see a car as a necessity, they will do what they have to do. Otherwise, their is always the bus, the train or subway, whatever is made available in their area as public transportation.
