Original Christian art for GospelGifs by Jim Sutton: The
Christian symbol of a dove begins in the Bible itself. In the
days after the flood, Noah sent out a dove more than once to see
if any dry land had yet appeared. When the dove returned with an
olive twig, Noah knew that there was dry land. In the New
Testament gospels of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit descended
from heaven in the form of a dove. When John the Baptist saw
this, he knew that Jesus was the Messiah God had promised
through the prophets of old. Today, the dove still represents
the Spirit of God to Christian believers. It is also used to
symbolize peace, and to represent the human spirit being set
free. A great part of the ministry of Jesus Christ, as God's
anointed is to set people free of the darkness and bondage of
sin.
